I know this is going to seem silly, but when do you change the date on your watches? On mine, the salesman at the Omega shop said I should only change the date the night before between the hours of 5 and 7 PM so as to not strip the gears. Have you ever heard of this?

    Thanks,
    Nick

Yes I have heard of it. But the window period I know of i 10pm-2am. Seems that different people hear different things. Reason being you may damage the date mechanism. Makes sense to me as the date disk is making the change around that time. Hope it helps.

I've heard of moonphases switching between 5 and 7 pm, but no problems with the date mechanism in that time window.

8500 doesn't have a quickset mechanism, it uses hour jumping so it doesn't matter when you set it AFAIK
