    Hey guys,

I am dealing with an amateur photographer - the pictures are horrendous. Nevertheless, I feel underneath the bad photos this looks good. It is gold capped (yellow gold?). Case is sharp as a knife! Pie Pan! Cross-hairs! Is this glare or damage or both? Would you take the plunge? What do you think?

Oh ya, and how much would a missing crown cost to replace?

    Thanks!

I'm not sure because as the angle changes so do the artifacts... He says the dial has never been "cleaned" so I'm really hesitant to say it looks bad...

It is so so hard to explain to people that their photos totally obscure the watch. I have had trouble in the past with trying to get people to understand that I can't know what I am looking at unless I get clear pictures...

I have a feeling the watch dial has the same pattern as this one (borrowed from OF) and it can be tricky to photograph. I imagine a flash of light can create a lot of artifacts in this dial.

Water damage. It's consistent to the left side of the watch. Specifically from 5 to 10 o'clock, and really bad at 7-8.

Wishful thinking if you think it's glare.

Looks like damage to me. Glare doesn't form that way.

One more vote for damage. It appears consistently in the same location in each photo, if it were just glare it would shift around depending on the angle.

It'd be a pass for me.

Damage for me too, because you se spots on the dial which means that the watch wasn't cared properly so don't buy it.

My wishful eyes deceived me! Thanks for the input guys - you were right!

I assume the discoloration is water damage from humidity entering the watch through the missing crown. What a shame... An unpolished, one-owner, cross-hair, pie-pan, dog-leg, 561... :(

Water damage. It's not as bad as this though...technically

I think the fact that it's missing the crown amd/or stem would be a no go. It is running, though who knows how much damage there is inside...

Well, a water damage can produce a very attractive patina, looking at this last example.
