There was a time a few years ago when USPS was a better choice than FEDEX or UPS (unless using parcel pro) USPS is currently a complete disaster. They are severely under funded and staffed.
Under staffed, you're joking. They employ over 600,000 on a business that is constantly declining. Manpower is NOT the issue with the post office. Their problem is their business model doesn't suit 21st century reality.

The current Postmaster General is pursuing directions that are questionable, and a previous adminstration has forced USPS to fund pensions for people not even born yet, which no one does.

With any luck, they can progress to a better level of effectiveness.

I think you are overlooking the fact that the post offices all need to be manned, and they are home base for the carriers. To a carrier the volume of mail is not really relevant, it's the length of the route they deliver to.

Hey Paul, this just came in a short while ago. Bought from creationwatches during their Black Friday sale, asked them to ship it to me sans box using their Free Shipping option (basically NOT UPS/FEDEX); no issues with customs

My Solas Starlight is delayed, that one is coming in from Ireland so I'll pop in a message here once that arrives.

I am a seller on eBay and to avoid custom taxes for my clients because i understand their needs i ship with registered mail which do not need for a custom declaration but of course the level of protection for lose it's higher..(never happen yet to loose a watch) and for higher price items i prefer DHL Express to declare gift..

I've done that three times for very expensive watches, a $500 to $1,000 air ticket for an early morning flight returning the same day is a reasonable expense, imo. It's in my possession and I control it until it's delivered. I've flown from Austin, TX to Tampa, FL, Las Vegas, NV and San Diego, CA to deliver watches. Sometimes you just have to do a little legwork to make it work.

Ok, update: Solas used DHL, and I received an email to pay customs charges (and their brokerage service fees) even before the watch left Ireland.
