Hope my question, to anyone that might have an idea, does not look strange.
Current hesalite speedmaster - 311.30.42.30.01.005 has already a few years behind its back. Any ideas whether a new substitution is to be expected soon?

What would they do to update it? It hasn't really changed since the -69..

    I'm just kidding!

Are you asking "Buy now or buy later" and want to assess the odds whether Omega is planning to give up Hesalite altogether? I don't think this is ever going to happen. This is the ICONIC version!

What CAN happen is that Omega suddenly changes the contents of the package, or details of the watch (bracelet etc.). Minor changes happened several times in the past. Typically, changes are announced during Baselworld. Baselworld 2017 opens March 23. Before the fair, you can only ask your glass bowl.

If you want to buy new and are happy with the current package, go for it! But be aware that future presentation boxes MIGHT contain 3D glasses, a coffeemaker(*) or a bedside radio with a snooze function. All this you are gonna miss if you buy NOW ... (once again kidding).

(*)Not so unrealistic. Recently they added external power supply to the box:

This brings up an interesting point. The 145.022 has been in continuous production since 69 with only minor font changes and different model names up to today. For all intents and purposes it's exactly the same with only one part having a material change and maybe one extra jewel added in the 90's. What other items have had that long of a production run with no changes?

Great opinions, especially for the people from Omega who are following the forum!
Sooner or later it has to happen again, even a slight change of a single detail will force changing the reference and i believe in many cases it is done intentionally. How many of you (because i do not) have the complete set of any speedmaster pro with a different reference number? I mean the unlimited pieces? Current one is 311.30.42.30.01.005? How many different references are in total and is there anyone who managed to collect them all?

2998-61 to 145.022-69 and a Mark II for good measure to mark what was supposed to be a change in the model but it just didn't take.

Even the iconic Porsche 911 has had more changes than our beloved Speedmaster.

Knives, forks, spoons and dinner plates are somewhat unchanged but that is all I can think of.

    I don't understand the question. I'm confused

All are one and the same, partially rhetorical. Just a few have the complete set of references. Imagine how many would have had the complete set if it was ... just one reference, thus i was asking whether someone know when is the new reference due?

Not any time soon unless they revamp the reference numbers

As for the 911 1968-1988 cars can swap almost all body parts. They made changes every year. I was thinking that as an option too. I'm betting there is a coffee maker out there with the same longevity.

I heard that Harley Davidson kept basically the same model from WW I to near the present.

Some makers of things like china, crystal, and silver flatware keep producing the same design, so people can replace broken ones of a set.

I'd love it if one of you guys with the massive speedy collections just wore all of them on both arms. Reckon that'll get you some strange looks!
