Curious etching inside back of Speedmaster

I got some pics of the inside of my newly-inherited Speedy as it's in service right now. Instead of hounding the watchmaker, I am trying to find info about an etching inside. I can't find any reference for this in the forum.
Background is that my grandfather bought the watch new in 1993, wore it daily until he entered a nursing home in 2001 and it sat in the original box until last month. I don't know if it was ever serviced. Of course, Grandpa was a tinkerer so maybe he etched it for security purposes? I wouldn't be surprised at all if it WAS him - nothing mechanical was overly precious to him. Mechanical things are tools. Buy good tools.

The numbers are "159286".

Thanks in advance for any insights.

As Tex said, it's (probably) a code used by the watchmaker when your grandfather had it serviced.
It might also be a code to the hidden vault, but it's more likely the former. Your new watchmaker might be able to decode it, or not.

If you happen to know what watchmaker your grandfather took it to, and they're still around, that would be a good place to ask.

@Aaron713, great musings about your grandfather treating tools as tools 👍.

Is the tree a normal etching inside a speedy?

I'm kinda hoping for the later, and the recompense that would ensue, forthwith.

@Aaron713,

Is the tree a normal etching inside a speedy?

The OF Oracle has considered your question deeply.

Your question was:
>Does anyone know where I left my sunglasses?

And in response, thus spake the Oracle:

The place you last took them off.

You owe the Oracle a back-yard swimming pool.
