Hi all I Just got my Coni back from service from a authorized Omega watchmaker to have my watch serviced and asked to have my original 10 sided crown replaced because it was worn and gold plating was gone on outer portion. When I got the watch back the watchmaker order from Omega the crown from my model number 167.005 and it came back with a newer style crown ug. I didn't think to say to please put period correct crown on. I called and asked him about it and was told he can only order parts by case number and that the crown he put on is correct. I guess my question is would you leave the crown he put on considering I still have the original crown. I know for collectors the correct period crown is important. Should I decide to sell the watch for (some crazy reason) I could include the original crown in sale.

Hmm... I have a 168.005 with an incorrect crown, but would love to have an original-type one installed. Of course, unless you source it yourself, the watchmaker will only be able to put a service replacement on it, which he has done here.

Get the original plated and put it back on. Those who know... will know.

Yea I should have left well enough alone and kept the original worn crown on. OH after reading you post again are you saying its possible to get it replated?

The crown is not just a pretty shiny knob to set the time with. It has seals inside it which bear against the pendant tube to stop water, dust and corrosive gases getting inside the watch. The crown is usually replaced at service time to renew those seals and keep the movement protected. Your original crown likely has very poor sealing integrity, so if you put it back you should be aware of that and be that much more careful with your watch.

That make sense I didn't think about that I will try to locate a new 10 sided crown maybe Otto Frei?

Not for this model. The thin 10-sided crowns for the Ref. 167/8.005 case were discontinued long ago. What you have now is the Omega recommended replacement.

Maybe, just maybe, your watchmaker might have an old one lying around. The problem with buying on eBay is that there were several sizes of these that all look the same at first glance. Then you buy one only to find out it doesn't fit your watch.

    Hope this helps,

Yeah I've done a pretty good search and found there are a few different tap sizes and tube sizes it would be nice to have the crown specifications in case one pops up I know it would work I guess I'll leave well enough alone at least I have the original crown

Thanks Gatorcpa good information the crown that was put on my watch is a 069SX42055 tube 2.00 Tap 90? I called Omega and they said for my case 167.005 its the only one they stock and only have 5 in stock. I could only find these on the Bay.

The 2nd one is an OEM replacement, but not for your watch.

The 1st one is a crapshoot.

Not sure what else to tell you.

Thanks that's what I thought. If I had the original Omega stock number I could keep searching.

Both of them are bigger with 2.5mm tube. For your watch it should be 2.0mm tube. The current replacement crown on your watch is fine and works much better than the 10 sided one. The period correct 10 sided crown doesn't exist anymore, even the newer one has been discontinued by Omega. You can still find them on eBay sometimes, but a lot of times they are Chinese imitations. Search for constellation crown and you'll find a bunch then post them here for verification.
