Is everything really awesome?
Must be.

"Awesome" is the single most annoyingly abused word locally!

Order a chopped barbecue sandwich with curly fries, beans and a Dr Pepper and the waiter gushes, "awesome!"

As the blood pressure cuff is strapped on at the cardiologist's annual check-up visit the office staff member enthuses, "awesome!"

Take the car into the dealership and request and oil change and the service writer raves, "awesome!"

My cat just died!

Awesome!

I have acute hangnail!

Awesome!

You're a nitwit!

Awesome!

Hey, to be fair there are some pretty good tracks on the Lego movies. "Forever" by DNCE from the Lego Batman movie and "not evil" from The Lego Movie 2 are both regular songs on our playlist!

Call-out for "Gotham City Guys" as well

"Lets agree to diagree" and " Thats your version" in an argument, just admit you are wrong, no need for cliches. Easier said than done, I know.

"Alpha", "Beta" " Sigma" I work with teens and hear this shit daily. It annoys me that boys are taking advice on being a man from someone filming them self screaming into the mirror.

"Watch journey" I just think its strange that we have to follow a path consisting of Casio, Seiko, Omega, Rolex and finaly "graduating" to haut horology. To me this is just consumption. I dont spend my money on things other people says I must have. I view vintage collecting differently, but "you do you" and thats a saying that maybe qualifies to this list too.

Agree with most, but on the “agree to disagree” we will have to agree to disagree on that one. 😉

When you are having a debate with someone, both sides have presented their views, and there is no consensus, that’s when this is a valid response, because anything other than that is likely to be acrimonious.

As for the direction of this thread, it was always going to be an old man yelling at clouds thread, so it is what it is...

Yes, but I think it was only a matter of time.

Definitely an incredibly overused phrase. I hear people use words like this talking single instances, completely missing the point that gaslighting is not any one tactic or single incidence.

As someone who had been made to feel crazy in a former relationship I despise when gaslit/gaslighting is used as a rebuttal against someone telling you that you are wrong.

Other therapeutic terms abused by those looking to justify their bad behavior, excuse an ignorant point of view or belittle others:

Triggered
Trauma
Abusive
Toxic
My/your experience
Boundaries
Safe space/place
mental health journey
Aggressive
PTSD
Spectrum

We all joke about the overuse of these words as they have been co-opted by bad actors or those looking to gain attention (particularly online).

But when we make fun of the words (ideas) we are just as guilty of mitigating their value to those who need tools and vocabulary to articulate experiences that have impacted their lives and find healing.

Sorry to be a wet blanket but as someone who has used many of the above terms in therapeutic environments, I get irate when I see people use them flippantly or belittle their meaning.

Indeed, watch brother. Indeed.

(but to make light of this, is watch brother on our cringe list?

Learn to stop worrying and love the cliché.

Or the 1001 jokes you already knew before you were born.

I do not think these are going anywhere.
