Took a chance on another local brewery’s take on a Marzen for Oktoberfest - this one from Big Storm.

I opened it with a little trepidation but was pleasantly shocked - it was a fine example of a true Marzen, with a classic malt-forward taste and the perfect amount of hops.

just a reminder that one doesn’t need a bucketful of hops in a beer to make it good.

Maybe 10 years ago 8 or so friends and I got together and did a blind taste test of Oktoberfest beers. We had 12 beers from micro and macro breweries. Sam Adams Oktoberfest took the night. It was a little shocking but to this day it’s a solid option. Some of the places near me weren’t bottling at the time, Trapp for example, and would likely win that taste test if we did it again.

I am not particularly knowledgeable about beer but I have heard Samuel Adams mentioned several times by “beer experts” as one of the best large breweries

For those of you that live in the UK try anything from Verdant (Cornwall) or Pressure Drop (London). Between them they have an amazing selection of IPAs, NEIPAs, Pale ales, stouts etc. Not cheap but these are artisan brewers producing quality beers in small batches.

Looking forward to trying some dogfishead 120 ipa this weekend, it’s been a few years since I’ve tried it.

I don't even bother with micro brews anymore, a crappy copy of a beer I can buy for often cheaper than the micro crap

Anyone ever try any of Martin house out of Fort Worth’s creations? They come up with some funky concoctions.
