There are also tons of redialed franken Masonic watches on the bay. They'll take a top end brand, redial it with a Masonic face, clean it up and charge about 4X what it's worth. Now if it were a redialed $100.00 watch, that would be OK for a beater but not to be passed off as something "Rare."

I've seen those, the other is the "Vegas" or "Blackjack" dials (you know the ones with playing cards for the hour markers), you can tell they're done by the same genius that makes those "Masonic" dials. I'm personally waiting patiently for a Hare Krishna dials to make an appearance.

We had a guy come into the shop the other day with two old Omega's, well he thought they were old and he was 1/4 right. PW's made into WW'S.

My boss wanted to buy them and I said don't they are " frankenwatches" and he just looked at me like I had seven heads and a hump! I explained what they were and he said why would they do that? I told him, for the same reason the guy came in to sell them and make $.

We passed but my boss is still confused about them.

Found this forum searching for information on these Ukranian watches - thanks, it was a real eye opener. I had a pretty good idea of what they were - but I had no idea how cheap the pocket watches were that they use to make them. I also noticed at least one of the sellers shills their auctions very agressively - the one that started my interest went well past $1000 - needless to say I'd already decided not to bid because it was obvious even at $200 what was going on...

I probably will buy one, at some point. At least I know which portion is the watch, and which is down to the skeleton & engraving work. Some seems really good, some seems laughable. Lack of originality aside, is Maurnavy a safe person to buy from does anyone know in terms of paying money for an item and getting it as pictured?

The thing is even when they do own up to it being a converted pocketwatch, what they do is hide that in a massive slab of text about the history of the brand and other assorted crap

There's no "probably" about it - it's definitely a horrible sight. The only thing RARE about that thing is that it's being sold by somebody in Australia instead of from a butcher shop in the Ukraine. What exactly do you mean "whether the face is genuine"? It's not an Omega dial, it's something Dr. Frankenwatch had painted up to say OMEGA. If it were a real Omega dial the seller would go out of their way to make a big deal about it. The lesson here is what they don't say is more important than what they do say. Look at the description for the movement, then look at the single line of a few words about the dial.

Authenticity = 0
Value = parts, which is very little.

"featuring C么tes de Gen猫ve and rose/copper coloring typical of Omega鈥檚 vintage movements. "

Really, where's the C么tes de Gen猫ve?

This one is sus, the seller has some watch background thus the setting of pics with AT in the background and professional sounding claptrap.

My gut tells me they bought it, found out what it is an now trying to dump it.

I too was interested in this watch. I was put off by the seller listing it with a buy-it-now of $500 than ending the auction early and relisting with a reserve of $600.

I contacted him for photos of the movement which he couldn't provide.

Is this piece looks like original manufactured Omega to you? Serial number indicates beginning of the XX century...

The only thing that ever got made by Omega was the original movement that has very recently been skeletonised and stuffed in a modern case.

I thought so - thank you for the confirmation.
