Hi All, posting my first thread so please bear with me. I am an L&D professional and travel a lot, and therefore require a watch that tracks 2 timezones and which also has a chronograph. I had considered the Solar Impulse HB-SIA GMT Chrono, but found it a bit too sporty for me (Slipstreamer & Archer confirmed that the movement has also received a new kit to take care of those famous Cal 3313 issues). Given that Basel '17 has not seen an update for the 9605 movement, or it's incorporation in any other design/family, I'm strongly considering on pulling the trigger on this beauty: https://www.omegawatches.com/watche...150m/co-axial-chronograph-gmt/23110435203001/ To that effect, I was wondering if the Cal 9605 could be 'converted' to a Master Co-Axial by changing those parts which are affected by Magnetism. I've been given to understand that the 9605 is based on the 9300, and since the 9900 is basically the same with the anti-magnetic parts, I figure those same anti-magnetic components could be used to 'upgrade' the 9605 to be immune to fields >15,000 Gauss. I know the 9900 is METAS certified, however I'm more interested in the technology and future proofing the watch rather than the certification. What do you think? Possible? Please do use this thread to post pics of your own 9605 AT GMT Chronos, it's not a very common watch which is quite surprising! Thanks!
I think you can use it as is. Giving there are silicone parts in the movement, the threat of magnetization is overstated. I never heard of magnetization for 9300-based movement and never experienced this. I agree that the watch is real beauty.
I would have to research it in detail (not going to do that) but yes it's probably possible. If it's necessary though is a whole other matter. Are your current watches getting magnetized constantly? If the answer is no, then there's no reason to do this.
As I work for an Electronics giant, part of my product training involves demonstrating the machines, some without their shielding/cladding. So far there hasn't been any issue as the only watch I currently wear whilst training is my AT 8500 Master Co-ax. I'm looking to get the 9605 for the additional functionality; given that both of you haven't encountered issues with magnetism, it is beginning to allay my fear. All that's left now is pics of other users with their 9605s! Edit: Thanks guys!
It may be possible to do the conversion but I fear it would be so expensive that it may be better to simply buy a new model and sell your old one.
