Constellation piepan with an odd case 168004-63

Did you measure it diagonally, as these Constellations are slightly larger than most at around 35.5mm but that does not include the crown, and is measured from 2:00 to 8:00 on the case

The crown is a replacement otherwise everything checks out other than the measurements.

Time for new callipers? 😉

Couple of things:
I can’t recall seeing a date reference on an .004 or an HF case for that matter. (Usually CB, KB or SGR)

IIRC, the .004 reference was officially released in ‘62, so this may be an early version from an unusual case manufacturer.
If the measurements really are correct, this might explain it. (And would make it quite unusual)

I think we’d all be grateful if you could show us the case being measured as it would definitely be an outlier watch - and we like that here.

Unfortunately, the lugs and bezel are a little soft and the dial is rather spotty from moisture ingress, so I don’t think collectors will be queuing up to put it in their collections.

Here is the back of a SS .004 showing the margin you refer to and the correct recessed ‘hidden’ crown.

35.9mm is significantly different to 36.9mm (which would have placed it in jumbo territory)
Do you have a pic of the measurement for the hive database?

I always thought the diameter of an .004 was 35mm but if it is indeed 35.5mm then the 200 micron gold cap covering could account for the extra 0.4mm.
