Hi went to change the battery today. They tried a new battery but it did not work and they said the only way to fix it was to bring it to a specialist at Omega in Germany or Switzerland. So my question is do you guys have any experience with this kind of watch, and what should I expect price wise for the repair. Also, what is it worth? not going to sell it because it is kinda a family heirloom I'm just curious.

Wonderful watch, would love to have one like this ! Well I have a similar one but without the 18k bracelet ;-)

It probably just needs a new circuit so you need to find a watchmaker who has some in store. Sending it to Omega Switzerland will cost you an arm and a leg and it might be hard to get info on what can and cannot be done. You could send it to STS in the UK for an evaluation and a clear conversation with them on what your options are : faulty part changed, full refinish of the bracelet, case, etc...

If you just want to get it up and running you could send it to the most excellent Ludmil in Bulgaria (read all about him here : http://www.watchtalkforums.info/forums/thread66992.html) who would no doubt get the movement back into running condition at the best possible cost. Sending an 18k watch in the mail would be a concern of course so you could have a local watchmaker take the movement out and put it back in when you get back.

If you are anywhere near the UK then pm me as I know 2 guys who can likely fix it.

Did you try another battery brand or test the charge. . If not and / or you used an everyready energiser try a Renata or the like . Modern energiser 344 have a very flat negative that sometimes don't work. ALSO try giving the movement a light tap near the battery strap screw. Needs a service anyway.
