Long story, (short version). Fathers 1962, Piepan crosshair, stainless steel none date, inherited and promptly stolen!! Hunted for a replacement having read about copies and dodgy examples. Nearly went blind reading about MOY, beveled cases, dogleg configuration. dotted "i"s, fluffy observatorues etc. Found one! Delighted!...but the interior of the caseback was engraved (very well executed) and not stamped. Everything I had read said NO!! but did Omega ever engrave? If not what should the case number be for this watch? Any help would be much appreciated. I did get a refund but am anxious to replace the caseback if it is a fake. Omega can supply a 167.005... currently the engraved caseback says 19400 CS-61 caseback. Cal is: 551: Movement is 19379949 Please be gentle if you think I have purchased a dog...
As I am sure you have learned, 14900 is one of the often faked Constellation references. However, I believe yours is legitimate. (crown is not correct)
Thanks for the information...I am now starting to relax a bit. I take it the crown should be one of the 10 sided affairs? I have seen quite a few Constellations with the sort of crown that is present on my watch so I assume these are all replacements?
The crown is a more modern Omega made replacement. The original crown is either 10-sided or scalloped like this one: This is a Ref. 167.005. Anyway, your watch looks very nice as it is. gatorcpa
