Constellation calendar 14393-1 dial issues

Ho fellow OF members,
I considering buying (or at least pitting in an offer) this Conny. To me case, movement, bracelet and crown look ok based on like watches displayed on the forum. What I have mu doubts about is the ‘patina’ of the dial and I would like your opinion about this. I would greatly appreciate your input!

i just recently got a 14393 too and it is identical to the one you posted. mine says hi

that's a beauty!
As a flea-market price, I would pay 800 immediately. An no cent more..

Ok, I’m in negotiations. Watch is serviced recently and has a nice original BOR bracelet with extension clasp. I offered 1250 and got a counter offer of 1300. I’m still not really quite sure if this is really worth it. Any suggestions here? @mondodec perhaps?

Personally I wouldn't buy a watch if the price was top end and I wasn't even sure whether I liked it. There you are, my thoughts.

OK, let me rephrase: all in all I like the watch, but my hesitations are towards the asking price and general value of the watch in this condition. As OF contains a load of experience, I’m asking if the objective value of the watch is reflected in the asking price.

How about that😉

A watch with patina is hard to value, since some people like it and others don’t. Personally, I like it. Clearly others here don’t. See the problem?

Let’s put it this way - if you’re looking to buy it to enjoy it, then I think the price is fine and you should buy it. If you’re looking to buy it and you think you may turn around and sell it, then I would not buy it.

I don’t think there can be a reliable answer to the question. It’s a small market, it’s a very subjective judgement.

Complete agree with @seekingseaquest above. It will probably be possible to get your money back on a resell. Maybe not in a week or a month though, as you’ll have to find somebody else who likes this form of “patina”.

Eur 1150 without BOR is more or less reasonable for this watch. If you loose money with it when selling, it wont be a lot. There’s always somebody in the world who likes this kind of damage/patina... 😁

OK, very helpful indeed.👍 Of course I would like to enjoy it. Flipping a watch with these price levels is not easy IMO. But, in the event of having to let it go for whatever reason, I do not want to loose too much on it. We’ll see what the seller has in mind. I’ll keep you posted.

Exactly, so I’m going dor keepers😀. But even then the price mist be ok how much subjective everything else is.
That’s why I appreciate the opinions of OF members, and the more the merryer.

Well, I didn’t pull the trigger. Price was too high in combination with the dial quality. Plus: the seller did not meet his own set deadlines a few times, which raised some suspicion on my side for the seller being trustworthy. Moving on, I will find a nice one for the right price😀
