Hi guys. I have a chance at this 18kt gold capped constellation in original box. The photos are a bit blurry but everything looks good. Is $600 a good deal? uploadfromtaptalk1389806390142.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1389806406413.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1389806420927.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1389806438055.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1389806455974.jpg

Did somebody have something against stars? Looks like they tried to eradicate them off the medallion. :(

Looks like they're possibly worn off a bit. Correct me if I'm wrong but the medallion is 18kt gold and relatively soft.

Usually 14ct, and it's polishing that wears them down.

Not sure that's the correct box either. I've got one that's identical to it - thought it was for 60's Seamasters and Genèves. Wait for some more opinions, but I'd pass on that particular watch.

It's 14K which is a little harder. BTW, alloyed gold (14K or 18K) is a pretty durable metal. It is likely that one of two things have happened:

    1. The watch was worn for many years. Any metal will wear down from being exposed to acidic human sweat over a long period of time, even top grade stainless steel despite what the Rolex folks would have you believe, or

    2. Some watch seller wanted the "oooh, shiny!" effect to impress a noobie buyer.

Looking at the general condition of the watch, I think it was more likely 1. above, as the rest of the watch shows a normal wear pattern. It looks to have been used, but not abused.

But you can never know for sure,

My Ref. 168.0025 Constellation from about the same time frame came in a similar box.

Not all Constellations had boxes with the model name.

Thanks guys. What would a fair price be in this condition?

Omega did NOT use 18K gold for capped cases and medallions, it was always 14K.

As noted by others the box pre-dates the watch.

In its present condition, $400 max, its really a project with limited potential.

    Hi,
A worn gold plated C-shape is not extremely attractive amongst collectors. The box adds a little, but I have seen this shift for EUR50 +/- so really not much to add for. The worn medallion is normal on a watch that has served as "daily beater" for a lucky gentleman. You could find replacement ones, but that would then not match with the wear on the rest of it.
I am sure it would clean up well, and with love and money would turn into a nice one, but I doubt you would ever get your money back.
USD400 maximum would be my advice. But then again, a fair price is the price at least one person is willing to pay!

Did not see your "valuation" before hitting "Post"! Glad we did not add to any confusion! :D
