Considering this Constellation, ID/Value?

Hi all,

Stumbled across this beautiful watch in my local marketplace and was hoping the experts here can help my analyze it a bit better.

Current ask: $3,000

Says it is from 1957.
Any better help identifying exact model and what a fair value in this condition would be?
Thanks!

Not worth anywhere near 3k. Case has been polished, it’s been redialed and has the wrong crown.

Pass on this one. In this condition, I wouldn’t even consider it, but if I did I wouldn’t spend more than $500

Appreciate it majorly.
Main thing I was noticing was the soft lugs.

Wouldnt have known about the redial!

Take a look at the second O in chronometer.

$500 is a REALLY generous overpay for this. Dial is worth near zero, case is worth very little, so you're down to the movement which is worth about $200. I'd MAYBE pay $350 as it is a half decent redial (AND I'd be able to do the work myself, I'd not pay that much if I wasn't able to service myself!), but the case polishing removes basically all value of this that was left.

I think we see this wonky "O" dial variation pretty frequently, but otherwise the watch is in poor condition. Very soft case, wrong sweep hand and crown. Worth less than $1k for sure.

It's not a proper looking 1950s Constellation. The dogleg case wasn't introduced until around 1961.

Not to hijack this thread, but where can one find a trashy <$500 pie pan Constellation? I understand that Omegas in that shape aren't worth top dollar, but do ANY of the sellers? I personally wouldn't mind acquiring a beater Constellation at a low price, but after looking for 25+ years my hope has faded.

From these photos it impossible to assess the condition of the watch with any real accuracy.

The case is certainly over polished and unattractive.

My gut tells me the dial is fine - and as @Dan S says, the wonky O is a known ‘aberration’.

It is definitely not a $3,000 watch (which is a very silly asking price) but you can’t define an open market value for a Constellation as parts, as someone (a non-collector) will always be willing pay good money for one.

As a polished dogleg pie pan I can see this achieving over $1000 - but personally I wouldn’t give it a second look.

For the record - Here is my gold ‘wonky-O’ pie pan.

I learn something every day on this forum. Never heard of the “wonky” O and immediately went to redial

My advice is - if you don’t know for certain, always hedge your bets.

“that O looks decidedly dodgy - is that a sign of a redial?

As it happens- and as I mentioned earlier - the pics are quite poor and it is impossible to say, with any certainty, if the dial is kosher or not.

Most people here as collectors wouldn’t pay $500 because we value original watches to wear. However, market price for these is easily $800+ on eBay auctions and as @Peemacgee mentioned can top $1000. Will be hard to actually find one for less.

Stunning watch! This is exactly what I hope to find one day.
It really helps having a reference like this to really see the difference.

The hunt continues with a little more knowledge of what I'm looking for.
