Considering buying first Speedy

Hello,

I've been researching as much as I can about Speedmasters over the last month, and this 1998 3570.50 1861 with tritium seems correct to my untrained eye. Is there anything I should be concerned about? I'm not looking to get into collecting (I say that now...) or to sell this watch for profit. I've just always wanted a Speedmaster, and this one looks like it could be a good candidate for my first. I just don't want to make a mistake.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated by this newb. And thank you all so very much for this community and forum.

Its nice, its complete but that is not a cheap price either.
I think if it was me Id pass and look at the private market here, something nicer and priced a little better will likely show up.

Considering some online stores are selling new Speedmaster Professionals for not far off their asking price, I would look for a better deal...

I have a similar model and year. Absolutely love the vintage-feel of the tritium dial. My hands are in better condition, but price doesn’t seem unreasonable as these last tritium models are growing in popularity.

Purely functional response here... see if you can get a little newer with Luminova and a push button clasp.

These things never did glow all that brightly, and when the tritium goes dead, it won’t glow at all.

It's lovely IMO. I would love to own one like that.
Have you read…... Speedmaster 101?

Yes! My starting place were all the Fratello Speedmaster articles, then I moved to the Speedmaster 101 site as well as various threads here and have also been using ilovemyspeedmaster.com for reference. All very helpful resources. Just wanted a second set of more experienced eyes to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Word of advice to the OP.

Once you pop, you can't stop... I'm already saving for my 2nd speedy 🤦

If you don't care about seeing it in the dark. He'll pick what he wants.

The clasp is in good nick, surprisingly so for a 20+ year old watch 😉. Mine is 3 years old and ‘desk diving’ has left many scratches. Therefore I’m guessing this watch has been worn on a strap, or hasn’t been worn much...
