Hello, I joined this forum after recently developing interest in omega vintage watches. I am posting here for the first time with the hope that the you all would be able to advise me. I am considering a vintage Seamaster 30; Cal 601; Ref: 135.011. I have googled the watch but could not get a meaningful result. The dealer says that the watch has everything original except for the band. I am attaching a few pictures from the dealer's website. Appreciate your help.
There is a beautiful one for sale here in the forums, check out the private sellers section it should be on the first page still. Its a beautiful example which I like more than the one you posted. That being said I am NOT an expert with these! The one here has archives as well and is pristine.
Thanks for your response. I might be able to snag this for under a 1000. I like the one you suggested but it's way out of my range.
Omega Enthusiast just posted a photo of 3 of these on Instagram the other day. I always assumed these dials were fake/refinished, but apparently I was wrong. Nevertheless, I would proceed with caution, as the same watch with a more common dial would be a fraction of the cost (and far more plentiful). Good idea to post it here, hopefully someone will be able to authenticate or cast doubt.
You are right. SM 30 should have a 30mm caliber. Seems to be a redial/franken. Thanks for all the help. Much appreciated!
Just did some googling, and PAF Seamaster 30s with cal. 601 aren't as uncommon as you'd think. Here's one with an extract that came back as a Seamaster 600: https://omegaforums.net/threads/thoughts-on-these-paf-rail-seamasters.63690/ A number of different threads show an amazing variety of case combinations etc. for PAF delivered watches, a number of those are backed up by extracts. AJTT makes a mention of it too, which to me makes it more believable.
Seamaster 30 with a 600 movement is an oxymoron, they were call Seamaster 30 and Seamaster 600.for something. I say franken/fake until proven wrong.
