Considering a Seamaster De Ville (KL6068)

Hey all!

A couple of you were super helpful on a previous purchase I was considering. I ended up passing on that watch. The watch hadn’t been serviced in its life and the quotes I was getting pushed the total cost out of the range I was comfortable with.

I’m considering another piece - also a De Ville, case reference KL6068, with a 560 movement. To my untrained eye (comparing to other Seamaster De Villes), the dial seems original.

Listing states that everything is original except the crystal which has just been replaced during a recent service. Says it’s a factory original crystal. Tbh I’m more concerned with whether the dial/hands/crown and such are original than the crystal.

I’ve attached some pictures for this piece - do you all think it’s worthy of pursuit, and clear of franken status?

thanks!!

On my mobile, the dial looks fine but the 1 O'clock lug looks to have broken off and welded back on plus, the case back is worn. I wouldn't buy this, even if it is cheap.

Good luck in your search, Chris

I see what you mean about the lug. Hard to tell.

I don't know about the other angles, yet the polished caseback is a no-go, why endure a cosmic watch if you can't even enjoy a proper caseback 🙁

The case is rough, and the repaired lug that @ChrisN mentioned also jumped out at me. Very bad. It's a pass for me.

I agree with the above as well. You could always just wait until a nice de ville pops up here on the private listings. It'll probably be a much more honest watch than you'll find on eBay or chrono24 or even elsewhere online.
