Complete newbie, but I want a Seamaster 600

Sorry for hijacking this thread with newbie questions (although relevant). Where does one find a new glass for vintage watch? Is that something that a watch maker can figure out? How does it affect the price of the watch? Even better, is there a post that explains this?

Your watchmaker knows where to find them. $35 might be expensive. It does not affect the price for the buyer, only the seller.

There is a radio talk host named Bruce Williams who is famous for multiple things including good fiscal advice.

He said, don't fall in love with anything that can't love you back.

That your dad had a Seanaster 600 is significant. However, you'll never match it... and it will never be your dad's watch.

So let that go.

For your first Omega? Buy a new one. Or a recent one. Take a look at the DeVille Prestige line.

Don't go chasing vintage at first unless you buy on this forum, because the sellers here (the private ones) generally sell good watches for a decent price.

You can't buy a memory, so stop trying. (I learned that the hard way.)

Tom

Thanks for the philosophical words, but you're overanalyzing my first post here to be frank 馃榾 I just find this watch very beautiful and It's not to replace any affection value at all. In fact, even if I did have my dads watch I'd probably look for a newer one (or, have it refurbished) since I remember his watch being much more rugged than I want it to be. I'd like it to look like new, not like my dads watch. My post was just to show some background to where I realized this is the worlds most beautiful watch. You're putting way too much (own) theories in that that post. I want it for the material and it's beauty, not because I want to be reminded of my dad (I have a ton of other things from him that helps me with that) 馃榾

Sorry, not trying sound like I'm going on defense here, but your response really surprised me - You honestly have no idea about what memories I am chasing and not or how this relates to a watch I'm trying to purchase, but I can say this time you're just way off 馃榾

Sorry, I didn't want to bother you. I wanted to discuss about a watch. 馃檨

Your example looks like a redial as well (don't name the seller).
All redials?

I did... But just google:

Omega seamaster 600 136.011

and then pictures and you will find them. It will take you two minutes.

Thank you for your kind advice.

I looked a bit and found these (took me more than 2 minutes):

and this one with the melting "er" as well (which still looks different to the OPs dial):

Yes. I know there were different fonts and spacings, etc. There was'nt just one layout for the 600. There were different ones.

All my 600's also have the close swiss made and the separate E and R. But that does'nt mean these are the only correct ones.

Absolutely not a redial.

Yes, I agree. It's simply too perfect.

I've learned my lesson recently in a different thread, so the "rest" is defraction from the crystal I suppose.

Thank you for your expertise. 馃憤

Very helpful thread! I have one myself, but the case has been polished at some point and is not as crisp as some of the examples. Still a solid good watch.

I've just seen this one on ebay. Do you think it is genuine as well? I'm trying to learn, so any advice is much appreciated...

Yes. Saw this one on ebay this morning as well. Nice price. Although it's the small 600. I would say it's original yes. But to be 100% sure I would like to see a straight up dial picture. But the ebay add does'nt show one.
