Comparing movements in Seamaster Aqua Terra

I welcome your thoughts on the reliability of the co-axial movements 8500 and 8900. I'm exploring my next Omega purchase in an Aqua Terra and wonder if one of these movements is preferred over the other, the 8900 being newer. Are either to be avoided; if so, why?
My Seamaster is an older GMT 50th Anniversary and is not co-axial.
All observations are welcome. The used cost between watches of those movements is not great.
Thank you!

The time zone function is pretty slick on the 8900. I have it on my planet ocean and do find it quite nice (to not have to stop the watch to switch switch the hour - travelling or day light savings). But I don’t think this difference would be make or break as I actually find the 41mm AT a bit too big in person (especially white dial/grey dials) and prefer the 38mm.

That quickset hour hand is also on the 8500 😉

thank you all. I found the silicone spring thread. What I infer is that the 8500 and 8900 are each reliable. Now back to the hunt!

I personally, would much rather have the quick date function of the 8800 movement over the time zone function of either the 8500 or 8900. However it's only found in 38.5mm watches, which I find to be a bit on the small end for me. I also sold one of my 8900's because I prefer the aesthetics of one of the 8500 models but as far as the quality or reliability of either movement, I am not worried about it.

I will correct you as I have been corrected: it's silicon, not silicone. 👍

Agree 100%. The jumping hour movement sounds cool, but unless you are constantly traveling across time zones you don't use it much and it's a PITA to set the date. Which, unless you wear only one watch and it's always running, you have to do much more often.

And when I cross time zones I'm usually on a plane, where I'm confined in my seat for 5-10 minutes while the plane taxi's to the gate and you wait to get off. The perfect time to change the time on your watch even if you have to take an extra minute to hack it and change the time.
