    Hi All,
Im on the hunt for a Speedmaster.. was looking at some collectibles but they are very pricey (over my budget).
Can anyone recommend any Speedmaster models / ref (that you would recommend as a collectible) that are less than £2k ?

Or!! If non of the 'collectibles' are less than 2k ... which ones would you recommend and why?

"Collectible" is a very relative term. Some people collect scabs.

But given your budget for a Speedmaster, I think that rules out tritium dial Moonwatches. However, you might want to consider a Speedmaster Mark II like the ref 145.014. IMHO, they are reasonably priced and downside is limited.

The Speedmasters that are the best balance between value and collect ability at the minute are the 80's Pro models. Too old to be new, but too new to be vintage so there's no price premium. However, they often have lovely patinated markers, classic movement and are on the cusp of becoming vintage models.

If you consider Mark models, I would advise Omega Speedmaster Mark 4.5!

If I was you, I'd spend some time looking after a MK II in great condition with either a tropical black dial or a racing dial variant. Great watch, wears fantastic.

    Or...

I can't be the only one around here that sees those digital speedmasters and wants to recoil in horror.

The reduced speedmaster is well within the range but probably not considered collectible.
I got my FOIS for a tad over 2k

Another vote for the Mk II ... mine cost me £800 a few years ago and now you can't seem to find a decent one below £1800, but that will get you a correct one on an original bracelet. They wear well, are damn near bullet-proof, and (to my eyes) gorgeous to look at. If you're set on the "classic" Speedy, your budget limits you to 80's steel versions. Avoid the reduceds as they don't seem to be holding their resale values (at least for now) though that doesn't apply to at least some of the limited editions.

Mk II Racing or 3570.50 would be my choice in that range

The do come up on the private sales forum once in a while and, frankly, the sales section here is second to none online. The members here value their membership and their reputations so, in my experience, are scrupulously honest with descriptions and pieces ... everyone knows the others will pull them up if they're not.

Don't rush into a purchase and see what the guys here have to offer.

There is some good logic here but there are those who are determined to ask a premium for the 1980s Speedmaster Pros over the more recent models. I have seen a couple recently including one on here at asking prices over £3250/$4000. Silly money IMO for that era.

Yep completely agree. People can ask what they like, but id be surprised if many 80's models are actually selling at a significant premium.

Id think with a bit of patience, a decent 80's example could be found for around £2000 or perhaps just over.

You could buy a cheap DON bezel and add the other parts later.
