[CLOSED] Can I ask your opinion on a 16570 white dial?

Hi there dear knowledgeable community,

I'm considering purchasing an Explorer 2 white dial... I have a potential 2004 candidate, very clean with the exception of a scratched letter H on the dial (see below).

I guess my questions are:
1) it's a sharp mark, is it safe to say it's the result of a redial? Should it be a warning sign?
2) does this affect value in any way?
3) could the rest of the letter deteriorate with time?

If I were to purchase this piece, it would be a keeper... but I would just like to know exactly what to expect.

Many thanks!
Adibou

Can you attach a pic of the whole dial?
1) Redials are not common on modern watches. It might be a scratch from a watchmaker upon service
2) yes it affects value
3) I would say no but hard to tell unless you have dial inspected by a competent watchmaker

An explorer II from 2004 ... no way it is a redial.

think about it: redial is not cheap. And you can easily find parts for this watch, cheaper than a redial. Redial is an option when you can’t find for a reasonable price a service or vintage dial. It is not he case.

with the picture, it is not a redial. Letters on glossy black are very characteristic.

rasonable is that a service could damage the dial within the manipulation by the watchmaker

About price, of course. An issue always affect the price. If you want to sell it, buyer that identify will pay you less or go for other watch ... so you should pay less or go for other watch

Agreed, I doubt it’s a redial. If the price is good enough, it probably requires a service anyway so Rolex would probably quote you to change the dial (they always give a list of parts that they believe need changing).

mention it to the seller and see if they budge on price. These aren’t scarce so there will be others out there

Personally I would walk away from it, or else mention it to the seller and ask for a discount as that will only bug you down the road when looking at it every single time.

on a quick glance, it looks more like carelessness from a watchmaker, id walk away. I ended up with a gmt 16710 after a trade with a very small hairline scratch that i didnt notice until I used a loop. I still have it, but now I have to put in money for a dial eventually. There are and will be plenty other examples of this watch on the market with no issues.

If the watch was discounted by the price it would be to fit a new dial than sure.
I'd buy it and then maybe have it done down the road.
And I'm guessing that would probably have to be $500 USD or more...
Someone correct me if that is wrong because I'd actually like to know.

there was a dial available for about $425 on another forum i think, but RSC prices may be different.

Thank you very much everyone for your opinions.
I think I'll walk away and wait for another bargain.
Not worth all the hassle.

Cheers
Stay safe out there
