I hastened the demise of one Chevette by trying to rip the door off. It was a rental car and I was reversing through a gateway with stout wooden posts on either side. I had the driver's door open to look out of because I was so used to cars where the rear view was restricted and the door caught on one of the posts. Maybe we should have a thread "Rental cars I have damaged"?

(www.hiddensicily.co.uk). He owns this car, which I would wish to be mine, although I think it is in a better spot on sunny Sicily compared to rainy northern Europe. 馃槈

路I went to a show & shine today. The last one of our season. It took place in a small city south of here about 50 kms. By noon, they had announced attendance of 850 cars, and they were still arriving. So 1,000 plus cars. I walked for miles, viewing street rods, restored vintage, restored antiques, survivors, trucks, rat rods, motor cycles, etc. It was difficult to decide what to photograph. So I photographed four orphan cars that belong to friends. I submit them herewith.
A 1953 Studebaker convertible, one of 179 built, and one of only 2 surviving. A 1967 AMC Rambler Classic convertible, bought new by the present owner鈥檚 father. A 1967 AMC Rambler American 2-door hardtop with a 360 cu. in. V-8, bought new by the present owner who spent 28,000 dollars restoring the body, 20 years ago. And a 1970 2-seater AMC AMX.

路1936 White motor company tour bus.
Seen heading up the mountain while I was in glacier national park last week.
These were refurbished for the NPS not too long ago by ford. They were put on new heavier duty chassis and made to run on propane.
Roll back hard tops for unobstructed viewing of the park.
They were very cool to see creeping up and down the mountain passes.

My DW's Grandmothers first new car,, unrestored original. 1953 Ford Crestline Victoria.
The Last photo was her last drive...the day she let us buy it, October 8 1976. It just happens to also be my birthday. Thank you Bertha.
Actually, SUPER like! You鈥檝e owned it for 45 years. Still looks like new!
In 1953, my family visited family in Detroit. We visited the Ford Rotunda which was the focal point for the 50th anniversary of the Ford Motor Company. The rotunda was designed by Albert Kahn, and was built in Chicago for the 1933 World鈥檚 Fair. Henry Ford had it dismantled brick by brick, and moved to Dearborn. The building burned in the 1960s. The highlight of the show (to me) was a Lincoln convertible with white metallic paint (gold flakes), all chrome gold plated, and all knobs on the dash, solid 14-karat gold. Gold was 35 dollars an ounce then, and there was $8,500 worth of gold on the car. Shearling carpets, white leather upholstery. I wonder where that car is, today! A banner year for Ford.
