I shot them an email yesterday, and no response.

I sent them an email, too. I explained nicely that selling a blatant counterfeit watch on a public site would cost them much more in legal fees to defend than the $300 to 500 they expect to get.

Just received a reply:
"Hi David, please read our auction listing slowly and then reconsider what you wrote . If your looking for a real Rolex then try our lot # 327 in the same sale .After 21 years in business here we have no intention of knowingly selling fakes regards ,Ronan Clarke ."

What is this supposed to mean?
Does anyone have a contact at Rolex? <sigh>

Well they are now admitting they are knowingly selling a fake, while carefully saying they are not selling a fake one as real.

That lot is a real DJ properly vetted by someone familiar with Rolex. I’m half tempted to buy it then sue them. Of course now I can’t but anyone else can.

I noticed that in the listing, the hands are conveniently covering the logo. For all we know, it says “Schmolex”.

That’s their out. However, I’ll never look at another listing of theirs again.

If you do, just re-read them....slowly.

Doesn't matter what is seen in the pictures or description. If they sell a branded Rolex that is not authentic, it is still fraud. Dangerous.😒

"IN THE STYLE OF" or "STYLE" are keywords that sellers use to try and sell one thing as something else of higher value, but otherwise done by nobody - I am familiar with this term in vintage art collecting. This is different, because they're selling a FAKE, not an homage or "in the style of" Rolex. Illegal, and should be reported.

Rolex USA could stop the sale if they want too. Maybe an authorized dealer or authorized vintage watch seller too.
Otherwise the authorities won’t intervene
Cheers

They are not aware of it.

I had a nice email conversation with the owner. I explained his risks / rewards with such a transaction and the exposure to fraud allegations. He agreed and pulled the item. 😀

It’s a great thing the owner came to his senses. Thanks for your persistence, gents.

I'm glad he got the message and pulled it but the lack of judgement in listing it in the first place is pretty extreme, legality aside your reputation is everything in the auction world and he's made it rather clear that he'll sell a knock-off knowingly if he thinks he can get away with it for a small margin on $300-500.

What I didn't like is that their site required me to sign up for emails before it would take me to the now non-existent listing. So their SMTP server is going to get some "undeliverable" for [email protected]
