·Good evening all,
I wonder if there is a 'definitive' resource (either interweb or traditional book form) to learn about this absolutely stunning reference ? I am lucky enough to own one of these fellows, but really know little else other than it was issued to RAF pilots around 1953, and that around 10,000 were made.
I would like to get into the murky detail, both about the reference in general (e.g. the background of the case and dial design, which looks to be an evolution of its WWW forebear, how and why the RAF came to commission Omega, the switch from radium to tritium and the associated move from thin to fat arrow, what the difference between 2777-1s, -2s, -3s are etc.) and more pertinently about my particular piece : no. 5060. How much can i find out about mine? For example, can i find out who owned it (e.g. from decommission papers?) and perhaps learn about what adventures it had? I presume an EoA isn't really going to bring much to the table here.
Incidentally, my original eBay purchase (below) came with a nasty replacement second hand, some unattractively green hands, an errant crown and a missing doo-hickey, all of which Antoine Lebel was able to fix up for me extremely reasonably. I'm not sure if he is here on the forum, but he was extremely pleasant to deal with, and did a great job for me, so here is a good opportunity to publicly thank him.
