Yes! That makes sense to me, especially as an owner down the line might not have like the engraving. Or a watchmaker swapped it out for a "cleaner" one. The outside of the back I posted is sterile as far as I can tell.

Most of these case backs including the F.a.I and Fuerza Aerea Argentina Omega watches seem to have extra numbers inside the case back.
Is your outer back sterile or marked waterproof shockproof etc?

2451 would be the Omega ref.
The number at the top is more obscure.
Some sorts of running numbers/issue number perhaps?

Completely sterile, though I have not handled it to see if anything has been polished out. Looks like the original circular machining to me. No extra matching numbers under the lugs or anything like that either that I can see.
