Chronostop 145.009 - recent purchase

Hi everyone!

First post here - excited to be part of the community.

I recently purchased this Chronostop 145.009 with burgundy dial and date window. It seems to be in great aesthetic shape. I was disappointed to find it doesn’t have the original crystal (seller stated it was all original), but otherwise happy with the purchase.

That said, I’m starting to wonder about the authenticity. Specifically, the Omega font seems a bit off. I’m very novice, as this is my first Omega and first “higher end” watch. Am I being overly paranoid?

Any info and any additional thoughts are appreciated!

I'm sensing a re-dial here.

Can we see another clear pic with the hands well clear of all text.

Perhaps you could post a photo where the printing is not obscured by the hands.

Thanks for the replies. It was late when I posted this…should’ve consider the hands obscuring the text. Here’s a clearer shot

I don't want to sound like an expert on these, but I think the dial has been repainted at some point. The OMEGA font doesn't look right to me as you pointed out. The lume dot to the right of the date window is missing and the seconds hand seems to have a very thick coat of paint.

I’m wondering the same. It doesn’t have the original crystal and I’ve now realized it doesn’t have the original crown either. If it has been repainted, how much would that affect value?

OP's watch is definitely a different font that the example in @dsio's article. OP's has serifs on the letters.

I noticed the same. It’s technically a different model (date window) and the Chronostop font changed with that model, similar to what mine is, but the Omega font is what raises eye brows

Here’s mine for reference if it’s of any help

Beautiful watch. Thanks for sharing. Mine definitely seems off. For one, the color isn’t correct. That could be related to age, but it’s quite a bit different from the burgundy on yours. Not to mention, the factory dials seem to have an almost “rough” surface, comparatively. I’m a little disappointed. Between the dial, not having original crystal, and missing the original crown, it seems very little of the watch is original, despite the description stating otherwise. I purchased it on eBay for a little under $1,000 shipped…wondering what I should do moving forward. The one silver lining is that the case is in good shape. Still has the “brushed” look as many of them have been polished

The value impact is hard to tell, at least for me. It's hard to guess what some random eBay buyer would pay for a watch even if you described the flaws with it, but likely not as much as what you paid for it.

If this is the same watch, you could open a "not as described" claim with eBay and try to return it even if the seller says no returns. The description says "in excellent original condition" for the watch and "with no refinishing" for the dial, which I think are both incorrect statements. Hopefully one of our experts can also confirm that this a redial.

Thanks for your input. That is the listing and you summarized my thoughts, as well as what I’m leaning toward. If they’d consider a significant refund, I’d be open to it, but I really prefer originality, especially with a vintage Omega. Without it, I think so much of the collectibility evaporates. Hoping for a few more opinions before I contact the seller

If it was described as original unrefinished dial that is not true, and you have legitimate grounds for return and full refund. You don't need more opinions. If seller says no just open a claim in ebay "item not as described" and ebay will back you and process refund. I would not try to negotiate a partial refund as you will never "un-see" the flaws and its not worth it just start fresh. And next time you can ask for opinions before buying, always a good idea!
Good luck and welcome to OF

Edit BTW I would avoid sellers with 87% pos feedback in future

I agree. And thanks for the info. In fact, shortly after my previous comment, I filed a return request. Even with a refund, it’s a lot of money to me, and I purchased something I believed to be original. If nothing else, it’s about the principle.

The seller hasn’t denied the return request, but as soon as I submitted it, I received a message stating they would not accept. I’d imagine they’ll leave it to eBay to settle, which is fine. I normally try to avoid sellers with negative feedback, but I’ve been hunting for a Chronostop for awhile and allowed that to cloud my judgement. The seller is truly awful

I wouldn’t waste any time arguing. Just make claim with eBay

Yeah. Even if the seller was totally in the right, ebay will screw over sellers in favor of buyers every time.
