Chronometer 27.0S

My first "real" post since I have developed a huge interest in Longines especially vintages since end of last year.

During the past weekend I was able to score a Chronometer with cal. 27.0S in 18k case, 36.3mm in diameter and 19mm lugs. According to the serial it was dated to around 1955, and Longines archives confirmed invoiced to Wittnauer-Longines in May of 1956. (talking about efficiency from Longines, I emailed them last night and got a response from Jennifer this morning)

I have done some searches on line and found a couple posts from @Tony C. sharing a 27.0S that he sourced back in 2008, (that was a sweet looking watch in amazing condition btw), that the 27.0S was based on 12.68ZS, and since my example's serial was very close to Tony's example, I also assumed this was part of the 73 pieces that was chronometer certified in 1955. Beside Tony's example, I was not able to find more related information on other dial variants and further discussion on the movement.

Anyways, I am glad to share with this amazing community my newest addition, and all advise or recommendation are welcome!

Cheers,
Gary

Awesome. I love the gold dot minute markers. When done well these are really cool. Looks like the watch could use a spa treatment, maybe just an ultrasonic clean and a crystal polish and it'll be a real looker. Really like it!

Congratulations, Gary! These are indeed rare, and that is a very nice example. Interesting to note, also, that the markers appear identical to those used on Conquest models of the period. That's an uncommon 'crossover' of sorts, as the Conquests were, of course, automatic.

Cheers,

Tony C.

Thank you and I love the dot markers too. Very unique. I am gonna send it in for a complete overhaul that it well deserves.

Thanks Tony. Your invaluable information has shed lights to someone like me who had no idea of what I may get into. Very interesting crossover observation as well that the markers especially 3/6/9/12 are indeed shared by the Conquest.

I also bumped into an old pic shares by someone stating the 27.0S also came in non-chronometer grade variant. Very interesting as well.

Thank you. Just a regular "saw it, expressed interest on it, and brought it home" kind of story.
