Hello everyone Just wanted to give an update .... Just to recap I bought a dial and movement ....off the bay a while ago The dial has aged..... but acceptable to me ... But the business end... Movement looks stunning ....... Well next step was to figure out what case might fit this dial and movement .... been searching the web ... including Ebay . Came across a longines with a steel screwback case at 35 mm in diameter about 3 weeks ago . I kept coming back to it staring at all the pics will the movement fit ? Is there enough clearance for the dial ? Can I use the existing crown and steam from the doner ? thinking will this case work ? I know that the 27.OS based on the 12.68zs ... Well what do you think ? Good hunting Bill
Hi Was over at Steve G web site where he has a nest mint example in its original gold case .... @Tony C. had one in the past .... maybe this is that one ... tony did it have a screwback case ? I love the claw markers and the matching claw lugs .... http://ninanet.net/watches/others16/Mediums/mlongines27os.html Here are his photos ....
Yes, Bill, that was mine, and yes, it was a screw-back. Sweet watch. Well done with the orphaned movement and dial! There were very few of those produced, and yours looks good in the case you sourced.
It's a good feeling when a plan comes together. Especially one that isn't instant gratification but one that required perseverance.
A great project Bill! These movements deserve to be saved. I guess all were cased in gold and yours was molten. I have 27.0S cased in 18k gold with a screw case back (case reference 6749=1, sold in 1956). You now have a nice wearable chronometer.
I think it worked out pretty well given the search parameters. The original case though is just perfect for that dial, and the condition on the one that Tony C used to own looks incredible.
Having a couple projects sitting around helps to understand... as well as a number of failed attempts to find correctly sized dials, cases etc.
Looking good! But I'm still a bit shocked that someone scrapped the original case for the gold on such a nice watch
Lots of gold cases were melted. For decades those watches were just considered old and worthless except for the melt value of the gold.
Sure! I have also saved a couple of nice watches from the gold buyers, like this Zenith 40T But still....
