In my experience, most auction companies employ "experts" who are barely qualified to curate, and mistakes are common. In the auction above, lot. no. 48 is an Omega reference 2618, described as featuring a cal. 332 movement, but absurdly listed as being 34mm in diameter. Anyone with reasonable knowledge of vintage Omegas should know that the 332 was the non-chronometer version of the cal. 333 movement, and that both were 30mm. Now, even if one wasn't familiar with the ref. 2618 model, take a look at the movement shot, and explain to me how anyone could imagine that the case is only 34mm given the relative size of the movement.

There are only two possibilities: Most likely the case is between 36-37.5mm, or it is not a cal. 332 movement. The former is much more likely.

So not a one off to pis off only Speedy AFs but still clueless :cautious:

I'm guessing Reg would prefer to gain WIS customers than pis em off/lose 'em. Just guessing ...

Will report back next week, hopefully

The apparent size of the case relative to the 18mm strap supports your hypothesis. Just looks too big on that strap to be 34mm.

Wow, you'd think that with the name "Christie's" there would be some higher level of knowledge behind the sales. Maybe they should downplay the relationship and call it Kris-T's instead.

That's why the forum is thinking of branching out into the auction business!

There IS ( a high level of Vintage knowledge! ). Reg Brack oozes vintage. I know so far that he moved fast to take down the cal 861 mislabeled as a cal 321. So far, that incident seems due to technical error!! He took it down quickly after I told him

get to know Reg...reach out...he's a good guy with great intentions and a keen vintage interest. That he's at Christies is merely a fact o life

BTW Reg agrees. Issue seems to have been related to cataloging errors. Apparently, there was a glitch in its system and this particular watch ( cal 861 ) won't update, so Reg pulled it from the site.
