Can someone explain the estimate on this one? Seems to me to be off by about 400%. What am I missing? http://www.christies.com/lotfinder/...3014&sid=d906fef9-e532-4da2-a7a0-8588cd62a89e
Well it is 38mm. But it ain't a Universalone. I think they have an issue with decimal point placement on this one.
I've seen the jumbo sizes on sale for the same ridiculous prices.. But note it is "still" on sale (see matthew bain's collection site). But yea, I wouldn't cough up near that much for this.. We're moving into AP or Patek territory (at least for me).
Decent 38mm Tri-Compaxes from that era can still be had under $5k. As far as I know, the 38mm steel 40's Compax was never worn by the ethereally beautiful wife of a famous race car driver, so I don't understand the mark-up. Can I blame Hodinkee?
all about that case, bout that case lol. Compurs and compaxes in this screw-back case go for 5 figures for some reason
Though I agree this estimate a bit silly, 38mm+ steel chronos have become highly prized across the board. Vetta waterproofs trading at 4500? Nice, but that seems frothy, no? Perhaps as the larger case Longines and Omega chronos have become more and more collectible, the lesser brands have been pusher higher.
I think this shows dealers pushing up the retail of any nice chronograph. There do not seem to be as many available as seen before in good condition in any brands. I've noticed huge increases in asking for most all military watches and any larger 38mm up sizes. Supply & demand still rules but supply is finite. m
Nice watch but... In my opinion, the dial dots and hands are relumed, the hands should be blued steel not white steel and finally I even suspect that the dial is refinished (a nice job though).
