Just found this today at a watch show... from the sharp-eyed dealer who picked it up from the initial seller's table just one millisecond before I could grab it myself. Fortunately my lack of hand speed didn't cost me too much money. The original seller's pricing was, shall we say... uninformed. And after agreeing to the middleman's quick and extremely modest profit, the watch is mine. Doesn't show in the photo, but the dial is a subtle chocolate brown. Now I know what all the chocolate lovers are raving about. Without a case opener handy, what are the potential references this could be? It came with an Omega bracelet and end pieces, but it's not a Speedmaster bracelet. The watch has some potentially interesting provenance which I'll follow up on.
That's my guess, too. I'll find somebody here with a case opener and then I'll know for sure. Normally I open up a watch before buying, but it wasn't necessary in this case
Normally I open up a watch when I'm buying it, but it wasn't necessary with this one. Excellent guesswork, Seaborg. You were correct. 145.012-67.
How does a dealer at a watch show not know the going rate of a speedmaster ? It beggars belief in these days, where an answer can be found after 10 mins of effort, without leaving home
That is an excellent score! The chocolate is uniform and a lovely rich tone. Relumed perhaps judging by the markers at 6 and 7 - but I’m just being pedantic. A lovely watch all around - WIGH.
Sometimes at small watch shows in far away places, some of the participants aren't actively checking prices on the internet. I find people all the time who are still using the older-style price books. Omega made a lot of Speedmasters. With as much looking as I do, it was inevitable that I'd find a good one at a very reasonable price. With some additional info from the seller, I'll be researching the watch's purported extremely interesting provenance to the extent that it's possible, as one of the owners is still living I believe. If true, it's an amazing story. If not, it's still a great-looking, quality watch that I'll wear frequently.
Nice pick up. A watch show but the seller didnt know the value of this tropical speedmaster, sound like heaven.
