A Limited Edition Timepiece with Historical Significance! Chelsea was commissioned by the Presidential Yacht Trust to create a unique timepiece for the President's stateroom aboard the completely restored yacht Sequoia. Chelsea clocks have always been aboard Sequoia during all her previous years of service to U. S. Presidents.Franklin Roosevelt fished from her fantail transom. Harry Truman installed her first piano and played poker on board. John Kennedy held his 46th and last birthday aboard.Sequoia was sold out of service in 1977 and when the great yacht was returned in 1986 to be completely restored prior to entering Presidential service once again, there were no Chelsea clocks aboard.Design research revealed an interesting discovery. The 64 year old Sequoia was built in 1925 the same year Chelsea introduced the Vanderbilt. Although not offered for sale in recent years, the Vanderbilt was a popular nautical design. The Vanderbilt design was selected for the President's stateroom because of it's bold nautical look. The original design has been modified and enlarged slightly to enhance its boldness. It's polished and lacquered case and silver plated dial contribute to a touch of elegance that blends easily with this bold design. It's rich ship's bell striking tone will be a reminder to future Presidents that the Commander in Chief is always on watch. This clock has been in my collection for a years and been keeping good time and strikes the ships bell as it should. I have been running it for the last week … My clock number is # 63 of the 750 according to Andrew Demeter book on the subject. It was individually hand crafted, numbered and registered. The base of the clock is solid mahogany .Dimensions: H. 7&3/8" W. 7&1/2 D. 4&3/4 Dial 4 1/2. I also have its original box from Chelsea which I will include.
