It is not well known but as of Sept 2020 Chelsea STOPPED making it own SHIP'S BELL movement ( which it introduced in 1900 it has been modified over the years and was continuously sold till Sept 2020) . What I am offering here is an early 4 1/2 dial Commander from 1904. Serial number 11793 was sold to Charles C. Hutchinson Company (Chas. C. Hutchinson Nautical Instruments. The business imported and sold nautical and surveying instruments,charts, marine glasses, telescopes and flags.It was located at 154 State Street Boston from 1893 till 1937) on May 13, 1904 according to Chelsea Clock Company archives. This example's dial has double signatures first is the Dealers Name Charles C. Hutinson Company, Boston and second is the uncommon " C.C. Co." which stands for Chelsea Clock Company which was only done for a few years early on. Seldom seen Early Chelsea Commander model SHIP'S BELL CLOCK ALSO KNOWN AS MAHOGANY AND METAL ,4 1/2 INCH DIAL, This 1904 stunning red brass case with marine threaded bezel and silvered dial with engraved arabic numerals and classic moon hands is superb .!!this chelsea commander ships bell clock has been in my collection for years with a 5 1/2 inch threaded bezel elegantly presented on a red brass and mahogany mount.!!,,(clock weighs over 10 lbs!) make this a stunning nautical presentation!!!chelsea made these models from around 1903 and ended production in 1937!! .
