Changed the dial on a Vostok and messed up the hand placement

About a year ago I swapped the black dial on an AM Diver to a blue dial. When I did I managed to screw up the placement of the hands.

The hour hand lines up with the hour markers as the minute hand hits 17(ish). Can I just take the second hand and minute hand off again and re-seat the minute hand at 12? If I leave the hour hand on and line it up perfectly with an hour marker and pop the minute hand back at 12 that should take care of it right?

I think I have make sure the date change is happening correctly too. I have second Vostok AM Diver and the date flip happens about about 12:03. On the watch I screwed up it happens at about 11:52. So maybe I was off a little on the hour hand too?

Anyways, looking for recommendations on how to fix this without having to pull the hands off multiple times guess and check style?

Thanks!

For setting hands on, this is what Omega tells you to do...

Turn the crown until the date just flips over.

Install the hour hand at 12.

Turn the crown 12 hours forwards, to make the hour hand hit midday.

Install the minute hand at 12.

Check alignment and calendar flip to make sure it is within tolerance.

Install the seconds hand.

Other methods are taught as "must do" techniques, like installing the minute hand with the hour hand at 9, but in my experience following the Omega procedure will get you perfectly aligned hands every time.

Note that alignment of the dial is just as important as alignment of the hands themselves. You can't have hands that align all the way around the dial, if the dial is not centered on the movement properly.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Al

Thanks Archer, super helpful! I'll give that a try this afternoon. The nice thing about these Vostok watches is that any part I manage to break only costs a few dollars to replace. Perfect for learning that I shouldn't try this on a vintage watch, ever. Still a lot of fun though 😀
