Very true. I almost got something from that site. Looked into it and these so called experts never touch the items they appraise.

My understanding is that Catawiki is more Craigslist than a traditional curated brick and mortar auction, in that it is just random stuff that anyone that registers can put out there. Sellers submit items to an auction and supposedly an "expert" approves your listing and description. However based on some of the lots I've seen the "experts" just approve everything and add no value.

If you subscribe to their email list you can never ever get off, I guess I'll just have to block them

They regularly have what they describe as "Exclusive Marriage" auctions...basically Ukranian re-cased pocket watch Franken- monsters.

I had some email contact with them about the ethics of this and basically they don't give a 🤬 and will sell anything as long as they get their cut.

Took me, weeks and an escalating series of emails to stop their incessant pestering.

The “experts” don’t have a live link to their credentials (click their pic or name and nothing happens) and I tired googling one of them and got nothing. I wonder what qualifies as an “expert”.

Some of them do really exist. CW is a good idea executed by idiots.

Haha, Flymaster....that's awesome. One only the experts could recognise.
