Over the weekend, my 10 year old granddaughter mentioned that she was hoping to get a watch for the first time. She’d seen one of these and had set her heart on getting one

Like most OF members, I have various ‘spare’ watches and it just so happened ….

I’m thinking the Jesuit, Loyola, “Give me the child (at 7) and I give you back the (wo)man”. 😀

I dare say that for many of us growing up in the late 70s to early 80s a watch like this would have been our very first.

Welcome to the club.

Such a great workout beater watch. Great size looks great. Watch nerds give you the nod.

Looks impressive. I can't help but wonder though how well that stainless steel case and bracelet will hold up if it's used as intended for a G-Shock. At least a resin case won't show up scratches or dents as easily.

Have owned a SS 5000 for a few years now. With so many polished surfaces, it definitely shows scratches more than a resin G. I wear mine as more of a casual wear option than a hard-wearing G. That is what my resin models are for!

The SS is also noticeably heavier. Not something most would prefer for active wear. Ti G's are a better choice for that (if you want a metal, active wear, G)

DLC, or andonized so I’d assume pretty scratch resistant.

I try not to impulse buy, but this one worked out. First time I saw the carbon fiber insert look I had to have one. Purchased one quickly, still enjoy wearing it years later 😀

It's good if you want to change things up a bit. That's the beauty of the classic square G-Shocks. You can easily take out the module and put it in a different case/band.

I was recently given a Casio Edifice to add to my collection of watches I don't wear.

At about 175gm it's a beast.

I don’t own this but at £119, it’s an attractive trad-style watch (from the photos) although , at 38.5 diameter, just bigger than I wanted when I was looking for a blue beater.

It's definitely got Tissot PRX vibes. I can't see it on the Casio website though. I'm guessing it's a quartz, yes?
