I thought I knew what watch case shape shorthand descriptions meant, but now realise that I know less than I thought. Somebody must, over the many years of the OF, have had a similar problem. Is there an earlier thread that someone can direct me to, so that I can distinguish between round, square, rectangular, tank, c-case, Dennison and my watch collector's **** from my watch enthusiast elbow?
Cushion Cushion think tag Monaco or Paneri. Square appearance but rounded sides. C-case Tank is rectangular with bold lugs generally flush with case sides and proud. Google Cartier tank. Denison are British made cases for the British market. Normally standard case design ie circular.
The term "tank watch" has been co-opted to vaguely describe anything square or oblong. A true tank watch is a Cartier and a Cartier only, they actually own the trademark. https://www.forbes.com/sites/msolom...er-tank-watch-100th-anniversary/#116ac438fc37
Thanks for the above but, just so I’ve got it right - the three random examples below are all just regular (albeit marginally different) 'round' cases?
There’s an app from “Foundation de la Haute Horlogerie” called Watch Essentials (link: Watch Essentials van Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie https://itunes.apple.com/nl/app/watch-essentials/id1141456162?mt=8 ). Actually quit fun, but long and simple, and you do have to go through all of it, but every now and then some interesting stuff! Made a quick collage of the shapes of watch cases they covered, sure are more though...
Except for the last one, that’s a “C case”, if I find an explanation of all the shapes, I’ll let your know!
