    Hi,

    Can someone explain this, what I get is that this case back was for a different watch then someone engraved the new model number after does that make sense, or is this something common, just to know the thoughts on this. Thanks Guys.. $_57.JPG

    Yes , this was done by Omega. Perfectly OK.

    There are many of these for that model.

    Just wanted to confirm this..its the hippocampus with the circle around it, just not sure why they did this, any reason to do this? thanks for the help guys.

    176.001 briefly superseded it. Waste not, want not ;)

    One more thing guys, have you ever seen a rotor with these weights on them, seems like a replacement?

    The 176.001 was the first model to use the cal. 1040 but it was only available for a short time. A 176.001 is basically a .007 but without the inner bezel/tacky.

    No entirely correct. The tachy is one difference but the most critical differences are illustrated in the picture below (the 176.007 was taken from a picture posted by member ALPENSCHNEEROT). The 176.001 has a flat "phase" around the dial. Thus it also has a smaller crystal without the tachy. Omega essentially used all the parts from the 176.001 in the 176.007 except for the case body and crystal. In many cases they even used the existing 176.001 case back striking out the 176.001 and stamping 176.007 instead.
