I had never heard of Civic Holiday in Canada, celebrated on the 1st Monday in August. Can any of our Canadian members tell us a little bit about Civic Holiday?

It’s not Coast to Coast Mike. Depends on each Province.

Quebec, for example has it on June 24th. Big party known as “La St. Jean” (Baptiste).

But without doing an on-line search I suspect that most Provinces have it on the first Monday in August (today).

Everybody hates Monday. So this is a good arrangement.

I still went into my shop… worked on a belt.

It's called Regatta Day in Newfoundland, Terry Fox Day in Manitoba, Saskatchewan Day in Saskatchewan, British Columbia Day in BC, Natal Day in Nova Scotia and PEI, Simcoe Day in Toronto, New Brunswick Day in New Brunswick, Colonel By Day in Ottawa, Heritage Day in Alberta, Joseph Brant Day in Burlington, ON and Benjamin Vaughan day in the City of Vaughan, Ontario.

In mid February (in Ontario) we have family day. I was the patrol sergeant when we had our first ever family day (circa 2008).

We had a pile of family disputes. Really. Keeping all the families together when it’s too cold to go outside = fighting. 😁

I understand why they put it there, but that's not when anyone really wanted a holiday to fall...when it's hell frozen over outside...

As Archer wrote, it’s BC Day here on the coast and I get to spend at least part of it stuck in an Air Canada jet that was due to leave 2.5 hours ago (waiting on a replacement part, apparently. Glad it’s getting looked at).

They’re kind enough to provide water and after 2 hours hey look! a stale mini granola bar. Yay Air Canada hospitality! Better safe, of course, but not what I envisioned when the alarm went off at 5am.

I feel your pain...hope it gets resolved soon!

We have Family Day in B.C. as well. It’s nice to have a day off in February. Cynics will point to the holiday being tabled shortly after a former Premier’s run-in with Hawaiian law enforcement over a DUI. 😉
