Can you think of a movie that would be a crime if you did not see it ?

CineFix channel on youtube is a great place to get lost. Alot of movies come up over and over again on their lists, and each of them is worth watching. The pretty much only cover the best of the best in their lists.

and

Everyframe a Painting, is another pretty good place to get recommendations of movies that show great examples of "X" part of the Filmmakers art form.

And definitely Saving Private Ryan, or at least the first 45 minutes

Ok Bill, let's test your gray matter... "if they scatter, go for the baby and the mother" ... name the movie. 😀 @Bill Sohne

All the above plus: Casablanca, Apocalypse Now, The Deerhunter, Wizard of Oz, True Romance, Withnail and I, The Usual Suspects, Diva (French), The Ladykillers (1955 version), Monty Python Life of Brian, Brazil, Ferris Buellers Day off, The Breakfast Club, Alfie (original Michael Caine version), Star Wars

That's just off the top of my head... So many films including with great quotes and so little time...

OP - you are only old when you look in the mirror and realise you've turned into your father. And wonder why all the police look so young. And what's that stuff they are playing on the wireless,

Two from the above "the horror, the horror", and "he's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy"

There are too many truly great films to list but I think I'd start with Lawrence of Arabia. Then there's Cool Hand Luke (if you only watch the boiled egg scene ... or maybe Newman singing "Plastic Jesus" ...
). If you're not afraid of subtitles, watch Yojimbo and Breathless (though the Richard Gere american version wasn't too bad). Then, if you want a laugh every Clouseau film ever made, in order ... and stop before you reach the Steve Martin one (though if you've only got time for one, go for "The Pink Panther Strikes Again"
).

Finally, if you just want black humour there were some incredible films that came out of Ealing in the 50s. I highly recommend Kind Hearts and Coronets; Ladykillers; The Man in the White Suit; and, The Lavender Hill Mob.

Cinema Paradiso has to be watched by anyone who loves films and a History of Violence which I watched with no expectations but have viewed quite a few times since

Then there are the new classics, like my generation's Citizen Kane (100% serious, I'll fight you about it):

A couple other fun ones like

And a must-see for any "red-blooded" American male 😁
