Can you tell me about this watch, please?

Thanks for the info and opinions everyone. I would not be keeping the watch personally as it belonged to my FIL and my BIL asked me to get some input.
The main concern was authenticity because he also left a Rolex.....a battery powered one LOL.
I think a leather strap would be worth adding.
Any ideas about cost to service it? It runs but slowly....loses about a minute every couple of hours.
Rolex did make a few battery powered watches, so post a photo on here before you throw it out in the trash

I grew up in Evanston, but as that was ~50 years ago, I probably won't be of any help. 😁

However, you could start a thread asking for recommendations in the area, and I expect that you'd receive some responses.

As to your request for costs, there are too many variables for anyone to be precise. But given a "good" watchmaker, he'll probably be looking at $200-300.

Something else to keep in mind is that you can get the dial of the Omega refinished and for it to be a decent job, either at the Omega workshops in Bienne or with an independent workshop that specializes in redials. Its not cheap but it would improve the appearance of the watch immensely.

I don't think anyone needs to tell you that the Rolex is a fake!

It's a tough one. Whatever you do it will cost money and never be completely satisfying for a collector.

50 years ago I was in Oak Lawn and my dad was doing post grad at North Western, and working at the VA hospital.

As mentioned above I was going to suggest a better redial if it has sentimental value and your BIL wants to keep it. I haven’t done it but have looked in to it a little (internet searches and other threads here on the forum).

I guess it all depends upon how much your BIL wants to invest in the watch. The current redial, hands, and crown have removed it from being collectible. But, this isn't to say that it can't be a nice watch to wear for special occasions. Take it step by step. I'd find an independent watchmaker who's familiar with vintage Omegas. Get an idea what it would cost to get the movement serviced. I couldn't live with the present dial. get some input here as to where to send it. Ditch the hairpuller and put it on a nice leather strap. Voila, he'd have a nice vintage heirloom. PS stop winding it until the movement is serviced.
As for the Folex. Do mankind, the universe, your family, the watch community, and the kid down the street a favor. Take the closest hammer and smash it into smithereens.Watch people REALLY frown upon counterfeits.
