Can you tell me about this watch, please?

Hello! New member here, I posted an introduction recently.

My Father-in-Law passed away a couple of years ago. Among his possessions was this Omega Constellation. A local Omega AD pretty much assured me that it is authentic, but could not (or would not) give me any additional Information. It runs, but it is slow, and likely will need to be serviced, if it's worth doing that.

Any information anyone can provide would be appreciated, specifically:

Any idea of value?

Is the Speidel stretch bracelet OEM?

What it would cost to get it serviced at an independent service center?

Thanks in advance....Spiro.

It is a genuine Omega, and the case and dial appear to be original. Unfortunately, the dial has been poorly refinished.

It has value due to the gold content of the case, but because of the dial, the collector value is limited.

The bracelet is not original. Service costs would depend on your location, etc.

Thanks for the quick reply. Would that bracelet have been OEM?

No. Had a bracelet been sold by an Omega dealer originally, it would have been of much higher quality, and almost certainly made of gold!

Such a shame...terrible redial, wrong hands, wrong crown, 'soap bar' case front and bezel..

The good news is that the case back is in decent shape and it has the more sought after calibre 352...

Still I would value it purely as a parts watch. So melt for the case front and bezel, the case back being in good shape would carry a premium above the gold value and a cal 352 in nice condition must be €500-750

If you are looking for a nice watch to wear I would not touch it.

If you are looking for a nice watch to collect I would not touch it.

If you need some of the parts, maybe.

Would have been supplied on a leather strap as were most Omegas at this time. Bracelets were offered as accessories by the retailer.

WOW! Sounds like a couple of replies came from people who would just love to acquire this watch for a scrap price! I think the owner has a watch to be proud of! Not perfect perhaps, but not a watch to be dumped on, in my opinion!

Not perfect? One the worst paint jobs on dial I have ever seen.

If the watch has sentimental value to you, then the condition issues described above are incidental. Unless you plan to wear the watch regularly, there is no real need to pay for a service.

To the owner of the Omega. Forget the clamour of negative opinions. It is a sentimental piece, and it is yours to enjoy, in spite of the opinions of others!

The OP asked for opinions on the watch and value. The value is massively lower that it would otherwise have been due to the overpolished case and poor dial. It’s not negatively, it’s objectively explaining the reasons for a low value

Surely in this case, why not get it serviced and redialed ( properly this time) and wear with pride ( especially for family occasions - christmas get togethers, weddings, christenings etc) as a family heirloom?

thats what i would do

Thanks for the info and opinions everyone. I would not be keeping the watch personally as it belonged to my FIL and my BIL asked me to get some input.
The main concern was authenticity because he also left a Rolex.....a battery powered one LOL.
I think a leather strap would be worth adding.
Any ideas about cost to service it? It runs but slowly....loses about a minute every couple of hours.

If your BIL plans to sell it, he should do it "as is". Paying for a service would not make sense.

Agreed but I think he may want to keep it.

Costs can vary widely. Where does he live?
