Can someone please help me figure out if this fake?

Hi everyone, I really don't know anything about watches, but I am starting to learn little by little. My dad loves them and collects them. This year for Christmas, I decided I wanted to give him a super nice present. I bought him a 1960's Omega Seamaster from Ebay. This watch was $550 and to be honest, it was all of my savings. I literally spent a whole week, day and night looking at this watch and researching it, reading about them, looking at fakes etc. And I finally decided to buy it. I am now doubting myself.. I need to know if it's fake. If it is, returning it is going to be a huge pain..(they dont accept returns.) Can anyone please let me know if this is fake? I would very much appreciate it.

(Sorry for the long post!)

You did extremely well finding an attractive and totally genuine vintage Seamaster. Fantastic gift.

The movement is a caliber 285, which is one of the final members in the series of "30mm movements" that Omega used in their watches starting in the 1940s. The fact that they were used for such a long time reflects their high quality. Many Omega collectors feel that these 30mm movements represent classic examples of vintage Omega watches, and in fact there is a thread on Omega Forums just for members to show photos of their watches with these movements. (https://omegaforums.net/threads/lets-see-some-30mm-manual-wind-omegas.1546/)

The number 14390 inside the case-back is called the reference number. Here is a link to the page in the Omega Vintage Database describing a slightly different variation of this reference: https://www.omegawatches.com/en-us/watch-omega-seamaster-omega-ck-14390

The serial number on the movement, starting with 17,5xx,xxx indicates that the watch was probably manufactured in 1960.

As you may already know, this type of case is called "gold capped", where a thick layer of gold is laminated onto a stainless steel base. You can actually see the stainless steel on the back of the lugs. The case-back is solid stainless steel. This is a high quality case, and more robust than cases that are gold-plated or gold-filled.

Great taste, well done! But don't go spending all your savings on dad now... 😉 ( I just had this conversation with young Ms Danaos here)
