    Hi!

I bought a 1940-50ish UG from a guy in NY some years ago, I was curious to find out more about this piece. A helpful guy at another watch forum pointed me to this forum.

The watch is a military looking 34mm with a 265cal manual movement. It has some nice looking blue hands.

Do any of you know anything more about this one?
Have tried eBay and Chrono24, but can’t find any similar watch.

    Adding a few pictures.

    Best regards
    Erik.

It is a 1942-43 circa mid-size UG wind up in pretty nice condition. Not a military watch (military models had a 24 hour print on dial and would have had some sort of stamp or insignia). Hands should be radium lumed. Second hand and crown is not correct for that model. Finding an original replacement second hand and crown will be difficult. Not a lot more to say about it apart from enjoy it ...

The crown Could be ... A little difficult to make out in picture as it is not straight on. However, the second runner is dubious. Picture I posted is from UGs catalogue. It has five different models and none have that second runner without the extended tail. If it is correct, it could be service replacement but does not look like the one it would have left the factory with.

Regardless of right or wrong... it looks great I’d rock it on my wrist!

    Edit-

It has a US import code, which should help dating. The everbrite should also help dating.

It can be dated from the Ref. No. 980192. The published table gives this as 1942-19.43.

You will not find any pics on sala and although there are many on the net, it is by no means proof that it is correct. However, I do accept that the evidence is compelling ...

Will post catalog page tomorrow and leave it to you guys to make up your own minds but for me, catalog extracts are the ultimate reference and not what is found on the Web.

Value is a difficult one but expect £250 to £350 for a very good example and much more for a proven military version. Issues like lume, polished case, corrosion and dial will have a significant impact on value. I have seen some go for as low as £75 or less at auction but they are few and far between ...

Isn’t that a picture from the 100 year auction ?
The watch looks really nice by the way :)

    Quite Florent ... :)

and although the book has some that are questionable, the manuals are correct.

for the record though, the reverse lollipop hand seems to be very common among the 1940's manual wind and although not documented may be a style that was adopted at some point by UG (may well be service replacements as mentioned).

Is it a big deal ? big NO ...

Sala is not the Holy Bible, as well as the net, but I personally consider it a proof that there are dozens of them and all with the same hand.
As for the catalogs, they don't reproduce all the models and their possible variants.
Anyway mine is completely original and I don't want to convince anyone. ;)
