Frankly if you think that is a 1967 piece, you have so little knowledge to proceed that you should stop and do some reading as you are going to be paying way over the odds for an average watch. You are at this stage a mug punter and liable to buy the equivalent of magic beans. I half expect your inbox to be filled with less than scrupulous low life offering you a Speedy Reduced for the price of an Ultraman.
This falls into the category of harsh but fair. Common sense alone would say that with a watch described as 1967 by the seller yet with a caseback saying it is the first watch worn on the moon, something is amiss.

The Squirrel, had he still been around, would have been far more direct, shall we say, with a new member who lacks focus

If you can’t focus, you can’t hit your target.

I don't know if you are focused solely on the Speedmaster Professional, but if you are, Moonwatch Only by Gregoire Rossier and Anthony Marquie is worth thinking about buying. Expensive, but not in the context of the mistake you nearly made.

Edit - the current edition of Moonwatch Only is the 3rd Edition.
thanks ill consider buying/reading it

Yeah, there are some really basic things you can look at right out the gate, then if you need further clarification, dig through some online resources and ask questions.

Good luck with your search!

If you’re serious about these Speedmasters, then the book is indispensable. The ebook is nice to have as a portable in-hand reference, but it contains much less information and poorer photos than the big book.

If you’re going to spend thousands of dollars on Speedmasters, then a book costing a couple of hundred, that can save you from terrible mistakes, is well worth it.

While Speedmaster Only is the bible for these watches and is indispensable for purchasing an older one, poring over the Speedmaster101 website is a great free starting point. A 10 min browse on there will give you about 5 tells why the watch in question can't be anything earlier than the 1980s and will help you get 80% of the way there pretty quickly. For the final 20% you need the book and a fair bit of study time. Most of us only ever get to 95%.

The app is a lot cheaper but is drastically cut down.

I’d start by reading the speedmaster101 website and then refer back to it when considering any purchase to ensure all the parts of the watch are consistent with the description of the watch you’re buying. Then report your findings on OF so the people here can double check before making a purchase.
