Going to check out this watch at weekend, is 1967, 321? would that be Dot above 90? This isn't. What do people who know more about this think? Its as is, no info, and is non working I've been informed. looks bit rough, any value to it as it stands? worth what? easy repair? Sorry to ask loads of not easily answerable questions, just trying to see if its worth a punt? Photo's to show it... Regards, Ian
From the pics shown, which are really insufficient, yes, its a 1967 Speedmaster Professional, calibre 321. Relatively low serial #. This would come originally with a Dot over 90, and dot-diagonal 70 bezel. I think you need to provide more pictures to really say a whole lot more; we would need to see the dial, the sides, etc. From the pics shown, I'd say the movement has a checkered history, notice most of the screws are buggered, and you say its non-functional; so it will need a $600+ service. Others will have more to say about the visual clues from the pics of the movement. Yeah, its rough from the pics provided, case looks pretty thrashed from what I can see, and polished to boot (not good) Maybe worth more as a parts watch, I don't know. Make a crazy lowball offer and see what happens, or punt.
As Repoman says, we need pics of the front and sides, either good quality pics or a couple of close ups as well. It might be a decent user grade/every day 321 or it might be a dog.
Ok. To my mind, the case looks like it's Its had a hard life but it doesn't look overly polished as far as I can see. The dial is the original one. It shows a bit of movement of the lume but I still think it's original. Some people say this flat ended Chrono second hand can be original to late 321 models and the lume here seems to match, but personally Id prefer a spear ended one. The bezel is a modern replacement, 1990's or newer. Depends on the price as to whether its a pass it a buy.
Well, a bit more interesting with the dial shot. I agree with David, dial is original and looks like the best part of this watch, chrono hand being a flat bottom is probably original here (my '67 has a flat bottom chrono). Ditto's on the rest, case is beat up, this watch has had a hard life. Price determines everything here, just go in eyes wide open, there are plenty of better examples out there.
thought the bezel was not right, for its age. going at weekend to look, so I need to get all info I can... Thanks for help, keep answering!! regards, Ian
Is this in the UK? Prices here are a bit more than in the states. Is the movement kippered or just needing a service? We don't know. We do know the case isn't great and the bezel is wrong, but the dial looks relatively nice. I'd say it's worth around £1700. Maybe a bit more. If you want a daily wearer and it can be had for a good price, it looks ok. However, if it will be your only vintage speedmaster, personally I'd wait and pay more for a better one.
Hi Dave, no I have a couple of others, just not this cal 321 movement, £1700 sound quiet a lot for a watch that's rough, and does not work? Regards, ian
I might be wrong but unless you drop lucky, I'm not sure you can get 321 Speedmasters for much less. What's the asking price?
FYI - the caseback in the first group of pictures does not appear to be the same as in the second group of pictures.
