With these Masterpiece watches, the trick is finding one without the presentation, as the Depression took hold, they were only sold on request and directly marketed as "Presentation" watches to rid the factory of cal 922 stock.

At $500US, the directed advertising was not pointed at the bankrupt Farmers/Ranchers/Merchants or the folks in the bread lines, I would bet.

The pinnacle of Hamilton's design team and watchmakers. Only their very best watchmakers were allowed to assemble these. The cases were all hand carved and the best of the best components for the movements were only used.

I've always liked the Gruen Verithin models, but I've never bought one, and as my collection moves back towards RR approved watches, I probably won't wind up with one.

Actually from SSW, your indicator doesn't have a tail vane so it's acting like a wind sock direction wise.

😉

I’ve been thinking since @TexOmega posted his Elgin indicator watch that I haven’t seen many Elgin indicator models. Mostly Waltham. But did Hamilton ever do an indicator movement? That is, other than anything military such as model 21 and model 22 chronometers, or related military timepieces. Anybody know?

I’m always hesitant of you guys living upside down all the time, I await confirmation from someone smart enough to at least want to live right side up.🙃
No offense intended 😁😇

Shugart lists this grade 36S as a pocket watch.

I think you are right, apart from the military models/deck watches I don’t think there are any from Hamilton.

Yes, but that’s a 36 size, not really a pocket watch.

Kind of agree, although I am not a Texan. My past cars favourite engine was a 430 cid Lincoln. Yes it’s nicer than the 460. My handgun is a 44 Magnum. But honestly, there’s not enough space in my pants pockets to squeeze in a 36S pocketwatch.

I live in Alberta (Canada). Texas is approximately 5% larger in area than our province. But even here, a 36-size pocket watch from any manufacturer, is NOT a pocket watch!

It would fit nicely in my fishing jacket pocket, and would also be a nifty boat anchor in a pinch.

Look at that another way. If the size36 Hamilton with wind indicator was waterproof, it would survive nicely after being ballast in the pocket of your fishing jacket, after your body was recovered. Or in a high wind!

Two watches popped up out of nowhere today. The owner wanted my advice re: selling them. One is a Hamilton 940, and has the dial marked L H DOLL, CALGARY NWT (North West Territories. Alberta became a province in 1905.) The other is an 1892 Waltham with the Canadian Pacific Railway logo on it.

Those are nice watches Canuck. I just got this today so my watch fund is low.

While on the subject of clocks… I looked up Berhard J and he was last on the forum in May…

Hoping he’s just taking a break.

French. 19th Century. I bought it in late July. It was described as “working nicely”. Didn’t. But it was going in for service either way.

If it weren’t so heavy, I would have tried to sweet talk Canuck into servicing it.

The local guy (see website called antiquesintime ) did a nice job.

And the strikes at the hour and half hour is not too loud.
