I see that Citizen is celebrating their 100th anniversary with a LE pocket watch

There’s a video about it here

Oh, and it’s $6,000 USD 🤨

I too saw that. Still don’t want a Citizen watch!

I saw that, they are only making 100. I can't imagine that there are 100 people out there that want a $6,000 Citizen.

A friend has asked me for help with this interesting piece, last three photos.

Found the two examples below but not much else.

Marvin caliber 310, 15 or in my case 17-jewels, ca 1940s.

Anyone have additional information on these?

Thanks in advance.

Maybe there are a lot more ugly-silk-lanyard collectors out there than we’ve ever suspected?

They did a lot of drugs in the sixties. Welcome to the pocket watch forum. 😉
Opps, seems I pressed the pocket watch forum link in error meaning to post in WRUW thread. Strange, the links seem to move about sometimes when the What’s New page is loading, like a 60’s flashback….
Not that I would know.

A random thought while I'm already distracted 11 minutes into the work day... if I source another front bezel with glass for my Hamilton 992b model #11 case, would I be able to use it on the back side and turn my watch into a display back?

Great idea! That way, you’ll end up with a second watch with TWO backs! Why not use an acrylic pocket watch crystal that is a press fit on over the case threads, then secure it with a few dots of crazy glue! Cheap, and reversible. Or check around for a Hamilton display case? They can be had. Another thought. Check the components of your pocket watch cases and find out if the case serial number (or other identifying marks) show up on the three pieces. Bezels may or may not be interchangeable.

I thought of just using Saran Wrap held on with an elastic, but gluing a watch crystal on probably makes the most sense.

Just arrived: Illinois Sangamo Special 23J, 1920

The pocketwatchdatabase report on the handsome Illinois Sangamo posted by @SOG53 . A great addition to the thread. This one is reasonably scarce according to the data base. Perfect double-sunk vitreous enamel dial.

I have another Sangamo from same 1920 run I bought several years ago. Comparing them I note the following about the hands:

The new one has blue steel hour and minute hands, and the usual Illinois purple steel on the seconds subdial sweep. The hour and minute hands are perhaps replaced.

The prior example picture here the subdial seconds hand is shorter- likely tip broken off.

I like the plum coloured lettering etc on these Illinois

@DaveK points out the fill on the lettering on the one Illinois which is missing on the other. It’s not uncommon for the colour to wash away during repeated cleanings.

This brings up a question I've been meaning to ask.

Can the neato fill in the Illinois lettering be touched up or replaced?

This Sangamo Special retains most of its color so isn't worth messing with, but I've considered other Sangamo Specials and Bunn Specials that had degraded fill.

Could replacing fill correctly be a successful diy project?

You’ll have to be the judge as to whether it should be done! If it was my watch, I wouldn’t do it. It would mean a complete dis-assembly, followed by a thorough service. And would the replaced red in the lettering survive the service? Would you attempt it yourself, or approach someone you trusted to do it for you? If the latter, you should maybe discuss what you have in mind with them!
